If you want to see massive Himalayan peaks without dealing with the crazy crowds on the Everest or Annapurna routes, this is the one. I followed the itinerary to map out my trip, and it was spot on.
Over the week, I ended up logging around 80km. On paper, walking 10 to 12 kilometers a day doesn’t sound too intense, but high altitude changes everything. You start out sweating through dense green bamboo forests, but within a few days, you're in a wide-open glacial valley surrounded by grazing yaks and massive ice walls.
The absolute highlight was hitting Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) and waking up freezing cold before dawn to push up to the top of Tserko Ri. Pushing up to nearly 5,000 meters was a serious mental battle.
The air is thin, and you have to move at a snail's pace, but standing at the summit with a 360-degree view of Langtang Lirung was absolute magic.
Beyond the views, the local Tamang communities are incredibly welcoming, and seeing how they've rebuilt their villages is amazing to witness firsthand.
If you have a week to spare and want a raw, authentic trek, you need to do this one.
